I have a temperature signal that updates every minute or so and I want to derive the daily average of the signal.

Trendminer average aggregation gives me a rolling average at each timestamp. What I am after, in this case is a single value per day that represents the average from midnight to midnight the next day. When plotted, this result would show a step change at midnight every day.

This would be the equivalent of a PI-Datalink average calculation over a given time period with a 1 day (1d) time interval)

Is this feasible?

Yes, it is definitely possible to calculate the daily average that covers the period from midnight to midnight. The aggregation you see in TrendMiner is a rolling average, but for the daily average as you described, we can use a different calculation.

We hosted an advanced webinar on this topic some time ago. The recording is available at the following link, and I will upload the slides here as well. The stepped daily calculation is covered in exercise 1.D.

Additionally, I'd like to point you to a community article that discusses how to calculate averages on an hourly basis, which might also be helpful if you are considering further adjustments.
