  1. Gather Data Sources & Learn the Data Flow: Think beyond your data historian and understand the ecosystem.

  • When initiating a pilot with TrendMiner, most discussions center around connecting to a data historian, where the process/manufacturing sensor data resides. However, to maximize the pilot's success, it may be beneficial to integrate other sources such as Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES). Your Customer Success Manager can provide insights into which use-cases would benefit from such additional data integration.
  • Even if you are not within the IT organization, having a basic understanding of how data flows through various components of TrendMiner is crucial for effectively communicating with stakeholders across different departments. TrendMiner’s Data Architect can clarify how the platform acquires and processes data.
  1. Get Buy-In from End Users: Consider who will be the end user for TrendMiner.

  • Those working in Operations, Maintenance, Quality Assurance/Quality Control, Supply Chain & Logistics, and others can find great benefits with TrendMiner.
  • Engage early on with those end-users and work together with your Customer Success Manager to communicate the importance of data analytics and help define some concrete goals for the pilot. A couple of weeks ago, my colleague @Tommy Peters wrote an article that provides best practices on how to engage with them.
  1. Involve Your IT Department: Incorporate your colleagues from the IT and Networking department at an early stage.

  • They will be essential to put in place any hardware, software components or server configurations to allow data to flow properly.
  • Even if your company is opting for an on-premises deployment, it is essential that users can access the TrendMiner application through their web browser on their devices via a secured connection. Just like when shopping online or simply browsing the internet, it is recommended that all data be transferred in an encrypted way.
  • Your company likely has a procedure in place for requesting the SSL Certificates files needed to enable HTTPS browsing for any web application. Your IT team should be able to point you in the right direction.
  1. Plan for Scalable Deployment: Design your deployment strategy with scalability in mind.

  • Anticipate future growth and ensure that your infrastructure strategy can handle increased data loads and user demands.
  • Consider TrendMiner’s SaaS offering to not only offload some of the work required for maintaining the application but also ensure you can scale with increased user and site adoption.
