Questions: How can I use TrendMiner to quantify heat exchanger efficiency over time? How can I determine when cleaning is required? Can I automatically detect fouling before it impacts production?

Hello Community,We are experiencing a strange issue on one of our trend charts and are hoping someone can point us in the right directionWe are trending a PLC tag for a pump/valve that strictly has two operating states: 1 (Idle)and 2 (Running). The data flows from the PLC to our historian, and we are visualizing it inside TrendMiner.The Issue:Instead of seeing a clean block or step chart alternating between 1 and 2, the trend line is occasionally jumping or spiking to values like 5 or 6. None of these values exist in the PLC logic for this device

I am trying to set up a critical control point (CCP) real-time monitor for a sterilization process on a fermenter line.My goal is simple: I want an alarm to trigger on our operator dashboard if the tank temperature stays above 120 outside of a strict 19-minute to 25-minute window. (i.e., if it is under-sterilized or over-sterilized).There are no fields, dropdowns, or advanced criteria boxes on this screen that allow me to specify the 19-minute or 25-minute duration limits. It only allows me to select the Type (Information/Alarm) and type a text description. i want to check if it the time window exceeded and also didnt got up to the time window frame 

Hi,I have a question regarding the monitor and the context items being created.I created a monitor based on a saved search for the fermenter CCP sterilization process. The monitor is configured to create context items when the search conditions are met.My concern is about how the context items are updated over time.For example, if I initially create and save the ContextHub view using a time range from June 4 to June 9, and later new sterilization events occur on June 10, June 11, and beyond: Will the monitor automatically create new context items for these future events? Will the ContextHub dashboard automatically display these newly created context items? Or is the ContextHub view limited to the original time range that was selected when it was created? If I want operators to continuously see new CCP violations (e.g., sterilization periods that are too short or too long), do I need to configure the ContextHub view in a specific way? I just want to make sure the monitor continues

One of our continuous processes has a “lift” step with a flow that follows a typical pattern with a spike and a ramp down. The lifts are a relatively short duration ~20 minutes and therefore happen several times a dayI created a fingerprint from several of the most representative lifts using layers resulting from a similarity search .Question: because lifts happen at irregular time intervals, how can I properly align the fingerprint to coincide with the beginning of a given lift on a TrendHub view? Do I need to have some kind of trigger?

I want to create a graph which represents a typical day for my process, as there is a pattern in the values during each day. So I would like to average the values at a specific time during the day, for the last 30 days or the last year, and create this average value for each timepoint during the day. How would I go about this? The only way I could find to average values is over a single continuous time window, which is not what I want unless I could average several of these time windows and make each window small enough to result in a clear typical day graph (1 minute or 10 minutes for example). 

Is there to a way to see the unique identifier of a context item in a context field ?

Hello our PI tags have different names in the database & searching for them is not that conveniet. For example if a tagname: 1111/Pump1 would exist, I would like te alias it to a certain name & then be able to search for that name at any point. Is this option possible?

I was adding upper/lower control limits to a TrendHub view. The only way we knew how was to go to the 'Formula' tab and create a new tag that is a number (i.e. 45 to indicate the maximum). A couple questions: Is there a better way to do this? Is there a way to modify the Upper/Lower Control limit to be dotted/dashed line to distinguish itself from the other 'real' tags?

I am making a dashboard where I want to show the most critical values of the plant. For every tile I want to make conditions to make it green if good and red if bad. I want to use flexible borders based on a tag. For example the maximum temperature of a vessel depends on the product we make. So I want to make the conditions for making the temperature of the vessel green or red dependent on a separate tag that changes when the product changes. The conditions in the dashboard should therefore be dependent on another tag, not a fixed value. Is this possible?

I have a tank which is emptied regularily ~1 per day. I want to calculate the amount of total material in the tank over a year. No flow meter is available directly.How can I set this up as an output directly in trendMiner?

I configured a value-based search and added calculations to the search. I created context items based on the search results and assigned a context type with associated context fields mapping to the value-based search calculations. Question is: if I configure a monitor using that value-based search and get the monitor to create context items with this specific context type , I see the context fields being listed with optional drop-down boxes. What do I do with these? Will the context item automatically fill-in the results of the calculations to the context fields?

I would like to create a tag that tracks the hourly frequency that a block valve activates.  For example, The valve opens 20 time an hour.  How can I trend this performance metric? The valve tag is a digital tag.

I have discrete tags that I would like to plot. Today, they are plotted in the staircase format. Would it be possible to just plot the points when the data comes in? 

We have tags available where we monitor fa oilusage on a shift or Daily basis. After the shift the tags goes back to zero. I like to create a graph or table to monitor the oilusage per shift for the last 5 7 days

We recently upgraded to TrendMiner 2025.R3.0-15 and noticed that users with access to shared content can also delete it.In our previous PI Vision setup, deletion was typically restricted to higher-level accounts. Is it possible in TrendMiner to limit deletion rights to specific roles while still allowing broader create/edit access?Also, are there recommended best practices (permissions, folder structure, etc.) to prevent accidental deletion of shared content?

Dear all, I would like to display the downtime (in minutes) of one machine in a DashHub view. I created a Gantt chart that helps me quickly identify downtime on the line and the related root causes. The goal for the operator is to keep the number of events as low as possible. Similarly to the Event Count, I would like to have a count of total downtime (in minutes). Since the counter only seems to count ContextItems, I considered creating one ContextItem per minute whenever the machine is stopped. However, I’m not sure how to create a tag that tracks minutes, and I’m also wondering if there is a better approach.

I wish to create dashboards for all our plants (13 of them). I would like each dashboard to have a series of associated components for each of the major process units in the plant (anywhere between 10 to 30 major process units per plant): For each process unit, create:TrendHub view with the charge rate in comparison to limits and or planned rate (3 or 4 known tags from different connected data sources).
